Strategy

Health-RI builds on the first generations of connected resources that were created by BBMRI-NL, ELIXIR-NL & EATRIS-NL, and is welcoming existing and novel initiatives in the personalized health & medicine domain to join our mission.

History

Health-RI is initiated in response to the ‘call for dreams’ by the Dutch Royal Academy of Sciences (KNAW) in 2015. The national nodes of the European Infrastructure initiatives, BBMRI, ELIXIR and EATRIS joined forces and worked out a shared roadmap on how the Netherlands can set course for a collective biomedical research infrastructure that ultimately will result in better personalized medicine & health solutions.

Synergy

Building on existing programs and infrastructure initiatives Health-RI already offers many services in the context of the founding initiatives. For example, Health-RI partner BBMRI-NL already brings together over 220 Dutch biobanks and population cohorts with their related data collections. Similarly, in DTL/ELIXIR-NL over 100 technology expert groups and open research facilities in the areas of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, medical imaging and advanced microscopy, physiology, bioinformatics, e-science and systems biology are gathered. At the same time and in line with our Health-RI mission, the Dutch University Medical Centers are building a collaborative IT and data environment within the NFU Data4lifesciences program. By integrating the existing Translational IT (TraIT) program initiated by CTMM, now driven by Lygature, Health-RI also already offers a suite of closely connected software tools enabling researchers to manage their own data in a FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable) manner.

Health-RI will bring a much higher level of synergy in the fragmented landscape of research programs and infrastructure initiatives by offering the next-generation linked-data & workflow infrastructure tuned for high-end data and information sharing, as well as analytics across distributed data resources, all within one single platform.

Support

Health-RI will support research projects from start to finish by offering proven methodologies, expertise, training and best practices in data management to maximally use the potential of the Health-RI infrastructure and the available resources.

With Health-RI, researchers will have the tools at their fingertips to generate new research models, data and hypothesis, ultimately improving and accelerating the development of personalized health and medicine solutions for patients and citizens.
